2018 Mayoral Candidate Forum
Register now to attend a Woodbury Mayoral Candidate Forum over the lunch hour. With Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens not running for another term, Woodbury residents will elect a new mayor from the five candidates listed below. The forum is a great opportunity to hear from the candidates, gain a better understanding of the candidates' platform, and ask questions before Election Day. The event is open to Chamber members and the public.
Woodbury Mayoral Candidates
Anne Burt—Anne moved to the Woodbury community with her family in 2004 and has held several roles in city government including Planning Commission, Park and Recreation Commission, 2040 Comprehensive Plan Task Force and graduate of Woodbury's Citizens' Academy. In addition, she has been on several community volunteer boards including her Homeowners' Association, East Ridge High School Site Team, East Ridge High School Boosters, and ERAA Soccer Club. She has served in leadership roles in her church, taught faith formation, and also coached several sports. In her professional career, Anne has worked for 30 years in business development, strategic marketing, and management for small and large businesses with special emphasis on water quality. Anne has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Dayton and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University. She is married to Jeff and they have 3 grown children; Kaeleigh, Kilian and Monika.
Joe Hernandez-- Joe performs mechanical engineering research and development in the 3M corporate process research lab and is also an Adjunct Professor at Dunwoody College of Technology where he teaches courses in statistical quality control. He earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Joe focuses his volunteer time on efforts which place families first and possesses a wide variety of leadership, volunteer and policy crafting experiences. Joe has held multiple leadership positions in non-profit organizations created to help and encourage early childhood education including the Great Start Collaborative, ECFE, and BHK Child Development. He is currently vice president of the ECFE parent advisory council and coaches in-house youth baseball with the WAA. Joe is married and a father of six children, five of whom attend public school in district 833.
Cristy Vandeberg—Cristy is a Construction Project Superintendent for a top 10 company in Minnesota. She spent several years prior in demolition and concrete work as a proud Union Laborer with Local 563, starting as an apprentice and earning her way to journeyman. Cristy also has a background in early childcare. She and her husband developed, owned, and operated a commercial childcare center that they renovated in a struggling area of their community. Cristy also ran an in home childcare when she was a stay at home mom, allowing her to raise her own children while providing safe quality childcare to her community. During that time, she earned her CDA in early childcare and contributed many years of service to the Girl Scouts. Cristy comes from a small town and loves doing the simple things in life with her family—camping, fishing, bonfires and taking their dog Sam to the local dog park. She has home-town pride, rooting for the Saint Paul Saints and Minnesota Wild.
