TOPIC: Sex Trafficking: Impacting Woodbury Area
PRESENTER: Pete Orput, Washington County Attorney
About the Program: Washington County Attorney Pete Orput will give a presentation on how sex trafficking is becoming a problem everywhere, including in Washington County. The FBI has ranked Minnesota as 13th in the nation for incidences of sex trafficking. The presentation will focus on the emerging trends of sex trafficking in the Twin Cities, indicators for those who are trafficked, the laws penalizing those responsible for the trafficking and providing services for those trafficked. The presentation will also examine recent cases of sex trafficking in Washington County and child exploitation through digital means. Pete will share information on his office’s major initiative to combat sex trafficking and partnerships with other agencies.
About the Presenter: Pete Orput is the Washington County Attorney. He was elected to the position in November 2010 and re-elected in November 2014. Prior to becoming county attorney, Pete served as an assistant Hennepin County attorney in the violent crime section and prosecuted robberies, weapons and homicide cases. Prior to joining the Hennepin County Attorney’s office, Pete served as general counsel to the Minnesota Department of Corrections and served in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office as the deputy attorney general in charge of the public protection section. Pete was appointed in 2016 by the governor to serve on the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission.
Pete is a former high school history teacher and served in the United States Marine Corps. He also serves as legal counsel to the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association where he has volunteered his services since 1994.
